National Flower Show Hylands House Chelmsford

The National Flower Show is an annual horticultural event featuring hundreds of garden and home exhibitors, a Grand Floral Pavilion, gardening talks and a Floral Art Marquee. Our 2017 show will be opened by popular celebrity gardener, Monty Don, who will also lead a talk in the gardening theatre. The show is set in the grounds of the stunning Hylands House which is one of the biggest palaces in the UK.
Hylands House is a beautiful designed stately home situated in the 570 acres of Hylands Park. The history of Hylands House dates back to the 18th century. The House has been publicly owned since 1966 after the death of Mrs Hanbury, the House’s last private owner. Since 1966 the House and it’s surrounding ground has been owned and maintained by Chelmsford City Council. Hylands House has undergone a restoration programme which was completed in 2007. Both Hylands House and Hylands Park are now popular public attractions and host a variety of events throughout the year.
Grand Floral Pavilion 2017
The Grand Floral Pavilion 2017 will feature the largest ever Grand Floral Pavilion featuring over 40 individual plants man, growers and societies that excel in their horticultural field. The Pavilion will be a riot of colour, fragrance and amazing plants. They will all be judged in accordance with horticultural guidelines and may awarded with medals, Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver and Bronze, a Best in Show Award will be also be presented.

Monty Don, who has previously presented the popular gardening programme, BBC Gardener’s World, will lead a talk in the Village Green Gardening Theatre. Monty is an expert gardener who has appeared on a variety of television and has written many books. The talk will also conclude with a Q&A where you will get to ask Monty all of your gardening questions!
NAFAS Floral Art Exhibition
The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS) hosts the Floral Art competition located within Hylands House. With a competitive floral art competition entitled ‘This Green and Pleasant Land’ it showcases the talent of some creative floral designers from NAFAS. Some of the classes are open to the public.
Throughout the show there will also be floral demonstrations by leading members from NAFAS including Mig Kimpton winner of numerous awards including RHS Gold Medals
The National Flower Show will feature a selection of food stands selling tasty treats and refreshments. Alcoholic beverages including wine, beer and cider will also be available to purchase at the bar. Whilst you relax in the Village Green you will be able to enjoy live music from local groups including the Chelmsford Silver Band.
