Henbury Hall Gardens Plant Fair
30th June 2018 at 8:00 am to 1st July 2018 at 5:00 pm£2.50
A hidden gem in the heart of the rolling north Cheshire countryside, Henbury Hall is a setting of almost magical peace and tranquility. The 12 acre gardens have recently undergone a transformation to awake them from years of slumber and are just waiting to be explored and loved.
Set in an undulating landscape and surrounding two magnificent lakes, the gardens contain many fine trees and shrubs including some rare specimens as well as more intimate spaces such as the walled garden. The old Foster & Pearson glasshouses, which were derelict, have been restored and we are steadily building up a collection of exotics concentrating mainly on temperate and tropical Pteridophytes and Orchidaceae. The aim is to gather a Henbury collection of significant botanical importance. Highlights of the collection include the large group of Pamianthe Peruviana, the wonderfully flamboyant Amaryllid (which is sadly now extinct in the wild) and the rare Blechnum Palmiforme from Gough Island in the territory of Tristan da Cunha.
Please note: Dud to uneven terrain in certain areas, the garden are regrettably unsuitable for those with limited mobility.
Admission: Fair, gardens & grounds £2.50 (half standard price). Children free. Well-behaved dogs on a lead welcome.
Teas will be served in the old courtyard.
Directions: Two miles west of Macclesfield on the A537. Turn down School Lane, Henbury at the Blacksmiths Arms. After 200 yards, the entrance is at the East Lodge on the right.
